Guests will enjoy a once in a lifetime opportunity to work closely with China’s famous Giant Pandas at the Dujiangyan Panda Base.
Guests will depart the main tour on Day 10 and travel by bullet train to Chengdu. On Day 11 you will travel 1.5hours to the Panda base and spend the day as a Honarary Panda Volunteer.
The day will include learning about how to care for pandas, volunteer care work including carrying out old bamboos, picking up droppings, cleaning up panda enclosures, carrying in fresh bamboos leaves and shoots, etc. and time visiting different panda enclosures. You may see them sitting on the grass, climbing trees, playing together and even fighting. Bring out your camera to take awesome photos and videos about them.
You will then help feed the giant pandas with panda cake or other food, like carrot, bamboo shoot and apple. You will learn about their eating behavior and diet and have very close interaction with the cute bears.
After lunch and a short break you will watch a panda documentary to learn scientific facts about this endangered species, you’ll learn how humans can protect them and how we may live in harmony with them.
You will then feed the pandas again and assist with additional food preparation before being awarded a Panda volunteer certificate.
You will then return to Chengdu for the evening. The following day you will have some time to explore Chengdu before catching a bullet train to Xi’an where you will join the rest of the tour and travel by Overnight sleeper train to Shanghai.

Please note, minimum age for the full volunteer program is 10 years. Younger children can participate however their participation will be limited due to their size/age and they will be given simple work to do alongside their parents. There is no infant discount for this tour.

Arrive and depart China with ease using an Airport Transfer service. Our drivers will transfer you in private transport to/from the airport.
For arrival, guests will be met at the aiport with a named sign to make the process as easy as possible.
All guests arriving in China will need to have an approved Visa. It is not a complicated process, however it can be a little time consuming. For groups of 5+ arriving and departing China together we can apply for Visa’s on your behalf. For smaller groups, we can coordinate arrival/departure flights for guests from both the USA and SE Asia.
